And they’re back! Governor Orders Schools Open
“Our kids are only kids once” – with these words, Gov. Kate Brown has announced that Oregon kids will soon be boarding buses, lining up for recess and doing all those school activities we will never again take for granted.
Elementary school students (K-5th grade) will return to in-person or a combination of in-person and remote learning by March 29. Older students will be back by April 19. Parents have the option to keep their children in online learning only until the end of the 2020-21 school year.
As students pour back into schools, they’ll be following the rules that have become lifestyle reality: masks, physical distancing and other safety measures.
Opening schools offers normalcy for many families and releases parents from supervising our reluctant students at home. But many of us will be facing new forms of anxiety, especially parents of children with behavioral, mental health or developmental challenges.
